Chico Johnson Named 4-Star Prospect by ESPN
Central Catholic boys’ basketball player Chico Johnson was recently named a four-star recruit by ESPN.
“I’m truly honored and humbled to receive this recognition,” said Johnson, who has received NCAA Division I offers from Mid-American Conference schools Toledo, Bowling Green, Akron and Ohio. “None of this would be possible without the support of my family, coaches, teammates and the CCHS community. I look forward to continuing to work hard with my teammates to help bring a championship to Irish Nation.”
Johnson has also been ranked the No. 10 overall player and No. 3 point guard in the state for the Class of 2023.
A Division II special mention All-Ohio and first-team All-Northwest District performer this past winter, Johnson averaged a team-high 15.5 ppg and helped CCHS capture its first district title since 2011.
Johnson poured in at least 20 points on three occasions during the 2020-21 season, including a season-high 23 against Division I Regional Finalist Gahanna Lincoln.
“I can’t say enough about how proud I am of Chico for being recognized as one of the top players in the region,” said Boys’ Basketball Head Coach Mike Floyd. “He’s put in a lot of hard work and been a great ambassador for our program and school. Chico is not just a great basketball player, but he’s a great teammate and leader. He deserves all of the attention that’s been coming his way. We’re fortunate to have Chico representing Central Catholic, and I can’t wait to coach him for two more years!"
