Danyaile Shelmon-Banks Tabbed Student of the Month for December
Senior Danyaile Shelmon-Banks has been a cheerleader for 3 years and enjoys encouraging the teams to victory. This year, she joined the Drama Club and was an ensemble artistic lead for the play, A Wrinkle in Time, that the students presented in November at the Ohio Theatre. She is also a member of the Gospel Choir.
Outside of school, Danyaile works in customer service, and she occasionally hits the gym to practice tumbling to showcase her backflips during games. She is also a part of Ohio State University’s Young Scholars Program, a comprehensive pre-collegiate and collegiate student success program designed to enhance the academic, personal, and career development of its scholars. It has given her the opportunity to spend time on the OSU campus and work toward a full scholarship once she completes the program. She plans to major in communications and theater.
Danyaile feels that Central Catholic essentially chose her, and she is thankful that it did! “I had a goal of becoming closer with God, but I came to realize that he had better future achievements planned for me, and Central Catholic was the root of it,” Danyaile said. “This school is so supportive and welcoming, and it offers so many resources that have helped me both physically and mentally. The staff here is outstanding. The comfort I’ve received from my teachers, staff members, and counselors has immensely influenced my way of thinking and my lifestyle patterns. We learn to grow in peace with the things we can’t control, and to my understanding, that is the key to living a pleasant and peaceful life.”
“Danyaile is a kindhearted person,” said math teacher Julie Saba. “She is very calm and appears to not have any worries. Her calmness rubs off on others, making the classroom atmosphere pleasant. Every day when she enters my classroom she will say hello and will ask how my day is going. She takes her seat and is ready to work. Danyaile is a pleasure to have in class.”
