Eight Girls’ Track & Field Athletes Receive Academic All-TRAC Honors

Eight members of the Central Catholic girls’ track & field team have been named to the Academic All-Three Rivers Athletic squad, the league office recently announced.

Junior Aaliyah Bankston, junior Mary Ellis, junior Jayla Watson, sophomore Maronda Godfrey, sophomore Jara Johnson, sophomore MarSha’ Kelly, sophomore Taylor Scribner, and sophomore Brooklyn Vaughn were each selected to the conference’s all-academic squad. The duo of Ellis and Watson are garnering academic all-league recognition for the second-straight year.

The Academic All-TRAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have lettered and maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen are not eligible for this postseason award.

This spring, the Fighting Irish finished fourth at the Ohio Division II State Championship. CCHS captured state titles in both the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays. The quartet of senior Tianna Davis, Scribner, Johnson, and freshman Nyla King crossed the finish line first in the 4×100-meter relay (48.59), while the team of Davis, Scribner, Ellis, and King placed first in the 4×200-meter relay (1:41.04). Individually, King finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.39), while Ellis also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.95).
