Football Announces Fall Schedule
Central Catholic has released its 2022 football schedule, Athletic Director/Head Coach Greg Dempsey recently announced. The Fighting Irish are slated to play 10 regular-season games under the direction of Dempsey, who enters his 23rd season at his alma mater, including five at the friendly confines of Gallagher Stadium.
Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s fall slate will be their season opener against reigning Division I state champion Lakewood St. Edward on Aug. 19.
Central Catholic’s other two non-league games will be at home against Cleveland Benedictine on Aug. 26 and Olentangy Orange on Sept. 2.
Additional highlights to Central Catholic’s schedule will be home contests against Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) rivals St. John’s on Sept. 16, Oregon Clay on Sept. 30, and Fremont Ross on Oct. 14. The Scarlet & Gray is currently riding 25-straight victories against TRAC opponents, dating back to 2017.
Last fall, CCHS finished with an 11-3 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 ledger in the TRAC. They captured their fourth-consecutive league championship and advanced to the Region 6 Finals of the OHSAA Division II State Playoffs.
This fall will be Central Catholic’s last year in the TRAC. Beginning in the fall of 2023, CCHS will compete in the Catholic High School League (CHSL). The CHSL is the largest Catholic sports league in the U.S. with 27 private high schools located throughout southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio. Founded in 1926, it is affiliated with the Archdiocese of Detroit and governed by a board of directors comprised of principals and athletic directors from member schools.
