Football Battles Rival St. Francis de Sales in Regular-Season Finale in Glass Bowl

The Central Catholic football team will battle St. Francis de Sales on Friday, Oct. 21 in its regular-season finale in the Glass Bowl. The opening kick against the arch-rival Knights (2-7, 1-5 TRAC) is slated for 7 pm on the campus of the University of Toledo.

The Fighting Irish (8-1, 6-0 TRAC) will look to secure their 21st-consecutive win in the series and hold onto the Irish-Knight Trophy. CCHS has not lost to its crosstown rival since 2003.

The Scarlet & Gray is coming off an impressive 42-0 shutout victory vs. Fremont Ross (6-3, 3-3 TRAC) this past Friday in Gallagher Stadium. CCHS benefited from a season-high 4 touchdowns by senior QB Ty’Waun Clark against the Little Giants to claim at least a share of its 5th-consecutive TRAC championship and 9th overall in 12 seasons.

Two of Clark’s 3 TD passes went to senior WR Durye’a Hall in the opening half. The classmates connected on scoring throws covering 21 and 60 yards, respectively. Clark, who also tallied an 8-yard scoring pass to senior WR Mekhi Warren in the 2nd quarter, completed an efficient 8-of-11 passes for 123 yards.

In addition to Clark’s outstanding passing efforts, senior RB Chris Edmonds posted a game-high 163 yards with 2 TDs on the ground. Edmonds was credited with 61- and 55-yard scoring bursts to help Central Catholic extend its TRAC winning streak to 31-straight games. The 2021 1st-team all-conference honoree has now topped the century mark in each of the last 8 contests.

CCHS was also superb defensively, limiting the high-powered Little Giants to 209 yards of total offense. Fremont Ross came into Friday’s matchup averaging more than 40 points per game. The Fighting Irish allowed Fremont Ross to convert only 2-of-12 (16.7 percent) on 3rd down to help them tally their 3rd shutout this fall.

Central Catholic, which is ranked No. 5 in this week’s AP Division II state poll, is a perfect 11-0 vs. St. Francis de Sales since the conference began in 2011. Last fall, CCHS claimed a 49-7 home victory vs. the Knights.

St. Francis de Sales enter Friday’s regular-season finale on the heels of a 27-14 home triumph vs. Lima Senior (3-6, 0-6 TRAC). RB Traven Horton ran 37 times for 157 yards and 3 TDs against the Spartans.
