Football Clashes with Medina Highland on Friday in Region 6 Semifinals of Division II State Playoffs

The Central Catholic football team will clash with Medina Highland on Friday, Nov. 11 in the 3rd round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Playoffs. The opening kick against the unbeaten Hornets is slated for 7 pm at Perkins High Football Stadium (3714 Campbell Street, Sandusky, 44870).

The Fighting Irish (11-1) are the No. 3 seed in Region 6, while Medina Highland (12-0) is the No. 2 seed. The 2 teams will meet in the Region Semifinals for the 2nd-straight year. Last fall, CCHS PK Cole Tishler converted a 28-yard field goal with 5 seconds left in regulation to give the Scarlet & Gray a 23-20 victory at First National Bank Field at Bellevue High School.

Central Catholic advanced to the regional semifinals for an 11th-consecutive season following a hard-fought 21-0 victory against No. 6 seed Avon Lake (9-3) on Nov. 4 in Gallagher Stadium.

The Fighting Irish broke open a scoreless contest with 3 touchdowns in a span of a little more than 2 minutes in the 4th quarter to take control. Senior RB Chris Edmonds registered 2 of the TDs during this critical stretch, scoring on runs of 5 and 11 yards, respectively. The 2-time 1st-time All-TRAC selection carried the ball 23 times for a game-high 109 yards against the Shoremen, topping the century mark for an 11th-consecutive contest.

Central Catholic also scored on a blocked punt & recovery in the end zone by junior DB Marvon Greenlee to make the final score 21-0.

A member of the Suburban League, Medina Highland enters Friday’s post-season matchup on a roll, posting postseason wins against No. 15 seed Clay, 49-14, and most recently No. 7 seed North Olmsted, 49-7. Under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Gibbons, the Hornets are making their 3rd-straight appearance in the state playoffs and 12th overall.

Tickets for Friday’s post-season contest MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Division II, Region 6). Reminder, no tickets will be available to purchase at the gate. All playoff tickets are General Admission. Presale tickets will cost $10 for adults and $8 for students.

For those fans unable to attend the neutral-site game, it can be heard live on The Ticket l 100.7 FM with the “Voice of the Irish” Bill Clark & Jim Oswald, starting at 6 pm or streamed online HERE.

Should the Fighting Irish advance to the Region 6 Finals, they would face either No. 1 seed Avon (11-1) or No. 5 seed Olmsted Falls (10-2) on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 pm at a neutral site.
