Football Hammers Rival St. Francis de Sales in Regular-Season Home Finale, 69-0

The Central Catholic football team hammered rival St. Francis de Sales, 69-0, on Friday in its home regular-season finale in Gallagher Stadium. With the dominating win, the Fighting Irish improve to 9-0 overall, 6-0 in the Catholic High School League.

The Scarlet & Gray scored 8 touchdowns in the 1st half to establish control versus the Knights (1-8, 1-6 CHSL), helping the defending Division II state champions secure its 24th-consecutive victory. More importantly, the Fighting Irish registered their 22nd-straight win in the series and successfully hold onto the coveted Irish-Knight Trophy. Central Catholic has not lost to its rival since 2003.

Central Catholic dominated all facets of the matchup, en route to posting its 3rd shutout in the last 4 games. Offensively, CCHS tallied the most points by 1 team in the series, topping the previous record of 61 set by the Fighting Irish in 2014. A total of 7 different Central Catholic players found the end zone, sparked by 3 TDs from senior RB Marquan Braswell in the 1st period.

Junior RB Tyler Morgan also posted 2 rushing scores in the dominating home triumph, while sophomore RB Jerome Davis, sophomore RB Anthony Sylvester, and sophomore RB Mason Johnson had 1 TD run each as Central Catholic racked up 406 total yards.

In addition, senior QB Terry Collins, Jr. connected with senior WR Jaylen Watson on a 65-yard TD pass, and senior DB Jayden Barnes returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown.

CCHS, which is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Ohio D-III state poll, will return to the field vs. Cass Technical High School on Saturday, Oct. 21 in the Prep Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information will be available early next week.
