Football Hosts Rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday
The Central Catholic football team will entertain arch-rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday, Sept. 16. The opening kick against the Titans (1-3, 1-0 TRAC) is slated for 7 pm in Gallagher Stadium.
CCHS (3-1, 1-0 TRAC), the four-time reigning Three Rivers Athletic Conference champions, is coming off dominating victories against Benedictine, 31-0, Olentangy Orange, 40-10, and Findlay, 50-17, the last three Fridays. The Scarlet & Gray outgained the Bengals, Pioneers and Trojans by a combined 732 yards, 1,246-514.
Most recently vs. Findlay, senior RB Chris Edmonds totaled a season-high 249 yards on the ground with 4 scores. A 2021 1st-team All-TRAC performer, Edmonds was credited with TD runs covering 9, 1, 20, and 4 yards, respectively.
Senior QB Ty’Waun Clark also had a near perfect game throwing the football against the Trojans, finishing 10-of-11 for 162 yards and 1 touchdown, helping CCHS stretch its TRAC winning streak to 26-consecutive games. Over the last 2 contests, Clark is completing a sensational 90.0 percent (18-of-20) of his passes.
Overall this fall, Clark has completed 50-of-67 passes for 634 yards and 7 TDs, while Edmonds has carried the ball 83 times for a team-high 563 yards with 8 scores.
The Titans enter Friday’s showdown on the heels of a 48-13 home victory against Lima Senior. SJJ has also dropped close games vs. Dublin Coffman, 14-7, Anthony Wayne, 10-7, and Perrysburg in overtime, 48-41.
A season ago, the Fighting Irish defeated SJJ, 38-0, at Lyden Field. The rivals also squared off in the second round of the OHSAA Playoffs, with CCHS securing a dominating 54-0 triumph to register its seventh-straight victory in the series. Central Catholic’s last loss in the series occurred on Oct. 27, 2017, when it suffered a 13-6 road setback.
