Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Camille Lively

Camille Lively has joined Central Catholic as our new musical director and performing arts teacher.  She teaches Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Piano, and Drama.  Camille’s background is in choral conducting, private vocal instruction, professional choral singing, and arts administration and management.  She earned a Master of Music in choral conducting from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and pedagogy from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Camille has a great variety of experience, and most recently taught at Defiance College.  Prior to that, she was the artistic administrator and production manager for the Choral Arts Society of Washington in Washington, DC, where she oversaw a full performance season at the Kennedy Center.  She has worked as coordinator of education and operations for the Oregon Bach Festival, music director for the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene, Oregon and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne, Florida, and operations manager for the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute in Chicago.

Camille worked as a senior project manager for the audio and video production company, Arts Laureate, where she oversaw the production of virtual and in-person recordings, and managed CD releases through their record label, Tōnsehen.  One of her projects appeared on PBS, and she was nominated for an American Prize, a national award for performing arts which recognizes commercial and noncommercial recorded performances of classical music in the United States.  Camille has also worked as a private vocal instructor, choral conductor, and professional singer for Katterwall Ltd. and Soho Collective Artist Management in Hong Kong.

“The culture and people at Central Catholic are what made me want to work here,” Camille said.  “Everyone is welcoming and supportive.  I was also excited about the musical director job description.  I see it as an opportunity for creative projects beyond the standard programs.  I love teaching and I’m looking forward to this new challenge.

“I want to engage our students in the process and give them ownership in the music program.  I want them to experience all facets that go into running and producing something of quality, and really get them involved in decision making and create a structure of discipline and accountability.”

Outside of working at Central Catholic, Camille loves to be outdoors and enjoys biking and motorcycling, hiking, and white water rafting.  She loves to travel, has a boxer/American bulldog mix named Sophie, and is very serious about her coffee, having five different brewing methods at home.
