Football Runs Away from Brother Rice in Key CHSL Matchup, 33-7

The Central Catholic football team secured a 33-7 triumph against Brother Rice on Friday at Blue Devils Stadium on the campus of Lawrence Tech University. With the road victory, the Scarlet & Gray improves to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).

The reigning Division II state champion Fighting Irish scored the game's 1st 33 points to help them extend their winning streak to 19-consecutive games. They almost blanked the Warriors (0-3) in front of their fans, but the home team registered a TD with 40 seconds left in regulation to get on the scoreboard.

Offensively, senior RB Marquan Braswell found the end zone on a season-high 4 occasions. A 2023 team captain, Braswell finished with a game-high 88 yards rushing on only 6 carries. He averaged a whopping 14.7 yards per carry and has now found the end zone in every game this fall.

Senior QB Terry Collins, Jr. also completed 6-of-11 passes for 172 yards and 1 TD. Collins connected with senior WR Jaylen Watson on a 60-yard TD pass on the game's 1st offensive play.

The Fighting Irish will return to the field against Warren De La Salle Collegiate, the defending state champion in Michigan’s Division 2, on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium. Tickets can be purchased online at bit.ly/3EjJhky.
