Football Runs Away from Olentangy Orange in Non-Conference Finale, 40-10
The Central Catholic football team registered an impressive 40-10 victory against Olentangy Orange on Friday in its non-conference finale in Gallagher Stadium. With the double-digit home triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Scarlet & Gray jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the opening quarter against the Pioneers (1-2) and never looked back. CCHS extended its advantage to 33-0 at halftime to send the matchup into a running-clock situation for the entire second half.
Senior QB Ty'Waun Clark was nearly perfect throwing the ball, completing 8-of-9 passes for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior WR Durye'a Hall was Clark's favorite target, finishing with 3 receptions for 81 yards and 2 TDs. The duo connected on a 55-yard scoring strike in the 1st period and a 20-yard TD connection in the 2nd quarter.
Senior RB Chris Edmonds also had a monster game running the ball. Edmonds totaled 105 yards on just 11 carries and found the end zone on 2 occasions. He was credited with a 19-yard scoring run in the opening stanza and a 42-yard TD burst in the 3rd quarter. Edmonds has now topped the century mark in each of the last 2 games.
Central Catholic will return to the gridiron at Three Rivers Athletic Conference member Findlay on Friday, Sept. 9. The opening kick against the Trojans is slated for 7 pm in Donnell Stadium. A season ago, the Fighting Irish defeated Findlay, 41-6, at home.
