Football Takes Down Warren De La Salle Collegiate at Home, 28-23

The Central Catholic football team edged out Warren De La Salle Collegiate, 28-23, on Friday at Gallagher Stadium. With the hard-fought victory, CCHS improves to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).

The Fighting Irish received 2 TDs each from the backfield duo of senior Marquan Braswell and junior Tyler Morgan to help them stretch their winning streak to 20-consecutive games. Braswell, who finished with a game-high 146 yards on 27 carries, recorded scoring runs covering 10 and 15 yards, while Morgan found on the endzone on scampers of 9 and 3 yards, respectively.

In addition to a strong ground game, senior QB Terry Collins, Jr. completed an efficient 10-of-12 passes for 145 yards. Collins’ favorite target was senior WR Jaylen Watson, who finished with 6 catches for a season-high 102 yards.

The win elevates Central Catholic into sole possession of 1st place in the Central Division standings of the CHSL. The winner of the division title earns a spot in the Prep Bowl on Oct. 21 at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Fighting Irish will return to the field against Ohio perennial power Saint Ignatius, an 11-time D-I state champion, on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.
