Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Clare Smith

- What subjects and grade levels do you teach?
I teach American Literature to sophomores and College Prep English 1 to freshmen.

- What is your educational background?
I’m a 1996 graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School.  I have a communications degree from Bluffton University and an English degree from Lourdes University, where I also earned my teaching license.

- What did you do before joining the CCHS staffulty?
I taught at Cardinal Stritch for 17 years.

- What inspired you to become a teacher?
I had 2 English teachers in high school that were challenging, yet so easy to talk to, and as a student, you knew that they wanted the best for you.  My mom was also a teacher, and I have seen how many lives she has impacted.  Every kid needs an adult that is cheering for them, and sometimes that is their teachers.

- What made you want to teach at Central Catholic?
Central Catholic has a rich history and has many traditions that make it an inviting place.  There are also so many amazing staffulty members that are so welcoming and work to make Central Catholic a great place to be.

- What are your hobbies or special interests?
I love to read.  Most of my time is spent cheering for my own children in their sports and activities.
