Football Travels to Rival Whitmer on Friday
The Central Catholic football team will travel to rival Whitmer (0-1) on Friday, Aug. 25 for a non-conference showdown. The opening kick against the Panthers will be 7 p.m. at Whitmer Memorial Stadium.
The Fighting Irish (1-0) are coming off an impressive 47-14 season-opening victory against Findlay this past Friday at JC Donnell Stadium.
The reigning Division II state champions took advantage of 4 touchdowns from junior RB Tyler Morgan and 2 by senior RB Marquan Braswell to help propel them to their 11th-straight win in the series and 16th-consecutive triumph overall.
Morgan found the end zone on runs covering, 7, 2, 5, and 13 yards vs. the Trojans (0-1), while Braswell scored on scampers from 3 and 6 yards, respectively. Morgan finished with 113 yards on the ground, compared to a game-high 124 yards from Braswell. As a team, CCHS posted 328 rushing yards.
Senior QB Terry Collins made his 1st start under center for the Scarlet & Gray, completing 15-of-21 passes for 166 yards.
Central Catholic will be looking for its 5th-straight victory vs. Whitmer and 9th in the last 10 overall matchups in the series.
Last fall, CCHS registered a 46-16 road win vs. the Panthers. In a battle for the top spot in the now defunct Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC). RB Chris Edmonds tallied 184 yards and 1 touchdown on 21 carries, while QB Ty’Waun Clark completed 5-of-11 passes for 88 yards and 2 scores.
Whitmer began its 2023 campaign with a 46-35 road loss against Olentangy. Panthers’ QB Brady Ford finished 19-of-28 for 316 yards passing and 3 TDs. All 3 of Ford’s touchdown passes went to Logan Frank, who finished with 180 yards on 4 receptions. Alijah Shabazz also returned a kick 98 yards for a score for Whitmer.

Central Catholic will return to the gridiron against Detroit Catholic Central on Friday, Sept. 1 for its home opener at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.
