Football Hammers Rival Whitmer on Road, 35-8

The Central Catholic football team registered a 35-8 victory against rival Whitmer on Friday at Whitmer Memorial Stadium. With the impressive road triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 2-0 on the season.

The reigning Division II state champions jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the opening 12 minutes vs. the Panthers (0-2), helping them claim their 6th-straight victory in the series.

Senior QB Terry Collins was extremely efficient in his 2nd-career start for the Scarlet & Gray, tallying 3 TD passes, all in the 1st period. Collins completed 11-of-18 passes for 123 yards. He also rushed for a squad-best 59 yards.

Central Catholic will return to the gridiron against Detroit Catholic Central on Friday, Sept. 1 for its CHSL opener at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium. Tickets for next Friday’s home opener can be purchased online at bit.ly/3KgpfKi.
