Football Entertains Detroit Catholic Central on Friday in CHSL Debut & Home Opener
The Central Catholic football team entertains Detroit Catholic Central (1-0) in its much-anticipated Catholic High School League (CHSL) debut on Friday, Sept. 1 in Gallagher Stadium. The opening kick against the Shamrocks is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday’s home opener has been designated as the “BCSN Game of the Week” and will feature “GameDay Tailgate.”

The Fighting Irish (2-0), who are favored to win the Central Division in their first season in the CHSL, are coming off a dominating 35-8 victory at rival Whitmer. The reigning Division II state champions jumped out to an early 21-0 lead vs. the Panthers (0-2), helping them claim their 17th-straight overall victory.
Senior QB Terry Collins Jr. was extremely efficient in his 2nd-career start for the Scarlet & Gray, tallying 3 TD passes, all in the 1st period. For the non-conference matchup, Collins completed 11-of-18 passes for 123 yards. He also rushed for a squad-best 59 yards.
The Fighting Irish defense was equally as stout, limiting the host Panthers to 82 total yards. CCHS has now won 6-straight games against its crosstown rival.
Overall this fall, Collins has completed 26-of-39 passes for 289 yards and 3 TDs, while senior RB Marquan Braswell has rushed for a team-high 171 yards with 3 scores.
DCC, which was picked 3rd in the CHSL Preseason Coaches’ Poll, began its fall campaign with a 28-7 triumph vs. Dearborn.
CCHS and the Shamrocks will square off on the gridiron for the 5th time since 2005 and 1st occasion since 2019. Central Catholic has won the 4 previous meetings, most recently registering a 28-6 home victory in 2019.
The Fighting Irish will return to the field against Brother Rice on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at Lawrence Tech University.
