Football Outlasts Detroit Catholic Central, 42-21, in CHSL Debut

The Central Catholic football team tallied a 42-21 victory against Detroit Catholic Central on Friday in its Catholic High School League debut in Gallagher Stadium. With the hard-fought win, the Scarlet & Gray improves to 3-0 on the season.

CCHS jumped out to an early 20-0 lead vs. the Shamrocks (1-1) in its home opener. DCC would not go quietly, though, closing the margin to 27-21 midway through the 3rd period.

Fortunately for the Fighting Irish, they scored the contest’s final 2 TDs to help them stretch their winning streak to 18-consecutive games. It was also their 5th-straight triumph in the series.

Senior RB Marquan Braswell led CCHS with 156 yards on the ground on 22 carries, including a 6-yard TD run. Junior RB Tyler Morgan also had a solid effort rushing the ball, finishing with 95 yards on 18 attempts, scoring on runs of 1, 5, and 18 yards.

The Fighting Irish will return to the field against Brother Rice on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. on the campus of Lawrence Tech University. Tickets can be purchased online at https://bit.ly/3PiaTwZ.
