Football Travels to TRAC Rival Oregon Clay on Friday
The Central Catholic football team will look to remain on top of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) standings when it travels to Oregon Clay (2-4, 0-3 TRAC) on Friday, Oct. 1. The opening kick against the Eagles is scheduled for 7 pm at Clay Memorial Stadium. In conjunction with Friday’s matchup, Clay will host BCSN Real Men Wear Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
The Fighting Irish (4-2, 3-0 TRAC) are currently tied with Whitmer (5-1, 3-0 MAC) for the top spot in the TRAC.
CCHS stretched its winning streak to four-consecutive games with an impressive 43-12 triumph against Lima Senior this past Friday on Homecoming in Gallagher Stadium. In a battle of conference co-leaders, the Scarlet & Gray jumped out to a 37-0 halftime lead against the Spartans (3-2, 2-1 TRAC) and never looked back.
During its unbeaten stretch, Central Catholic has defeated Olentangy Orange, Findlay, St. John’s Jesuit and Lima Senior by a combined score of 150-18. As a result of its winning streak, the Fighting Irish have climbed onto the Associated Press State Poll for this week, sitting at No. 10 in Division II.
Senior RB Josh Watson carried the load offensively against Lima Senior, finishing with 76 yards and a season-high three TDs. Watson scored on runs of 32, 7 and 1 yards.
Junior QB Ty’Waun Clark was also efficient throwing the football, completing 9 of 14 passes for 169 yards and one TD. Clark was credited with a 9-yard TD pass to senior WR Josh Lee and a 10-yard rushing score.
In addition, sophomore WR/DB Marvon Greenlee recorded an 89-yard kickoff return for a TD, helping CCHS record its 11th-consecutive win vs. Lima Senior. All but two of Central Catholic’s wins during this stretch vs. the Spartans have been by at least 30 points.
Clark is currently third in the TRAC in completions (80), passing yards (1,084) and TD passes (10), Watson is second in rushing attempts (86), tied for second in TDs scored (8) and fourth in rushing yards (396), senior WR Sam Lee is second in yards per catch (21.8), third in receiving yards (502), fifth in receptions (23) and tied for sixth in TDs scored (6) and senior PK/P Cole Tishler is third in extra points (22) and 11th in total points scored (28).
CCHS will be looking for its 18th-straight victory against Oregon Clay on Friday. A season ago, the Fighting Irish secured a resounding 54-6 road triumph. All but seven of Central Catholic’s wins during this time frame have been by at least 30 points. Their last loss vs. the Eagles occurred during the 2003 campaign by a score 10-7.
Clay enters Friday’s matchup on the heels of a 31-7 road setback vs. St. Francis de Sales (3-3, 1-2 TRAC) on Friday.
