Football Trounces Rival St. John’s Jesuit on Road, 35-7
The Central Catholic football team trounced rival St. John’s Jesuit, 35-7, in Friday’s showdown at Lyden Field. With the victory, CCHS improves to 7-0 overall, 4-0 in the Catholic High School League, and remains on top of the Central Division standings.
The Fighting Irish held a slim 13-7 lead at intermission before outscoring the Titans 21-0 in the 2nd half to secure their 9th-straight triumph in the series.
The Scarlet & Gray benefitted from a career-tying best 4 TDs by senior RB Marquan Braswell to help them stretch their winning streak to 22-consecutive games. Central Catholic also received a rushing TD from senior WR Jaylen Watson to snap SJJ’s 3-game winning streak.
Braswell finished with 174 yards on 20 carries on the ground, topping the century mark for the 5th time this fall. The senior captain has now scored multiple TDs on 4 occasions this year and is averaging 170.7 yards over the last 3 games.
CCHS, which is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Ohio Division III state poll, will return to the field against St. Mary’s Preparatory on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at Milewski Field.
