Football Ventures to TRAC Foe Lima Senior on Friday
The Central Catholic football team will look to remain atop the Three Rivers Athletic Conference standings when it ventures to Lima Senior on Friday, Sept. 23. The opening kick against the Spartans is slated for 7 pm in Spartan Stadium.
The Fighting Irish (4-1, 2-0 TRAC) are currently in a 3-way tie for the top spot in the TRAC with Fremont Ross (5-0, 2-0 TRAC) and Whitmer (3-2, 2-0 TRAC).
CCHS is coming off a 28-7 victory vs. rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday in Gallagher Stadium. The Scarlet & Gray held a 21-7 halftime advantage against the Titans (1-4, 1-1 TRAC) and scored the final 7 points in the 4th quarter to stretch its winning streak to 4-straight games.
Senior RB Chris Edmonds and senior QB Ty’Waun Clark did most of the heavy lifting vs. the Titans, totaling 250 yards on the ground. Edmonds finished with 134 yards and 3 TDs on 19 carries, while Clark posted a season-high 116 yards rushing.
A 2021 1st-team All-TRAC performer, Edmonds has topped the century mark in each of the last 4 contests. Overall this fall, Edmonds has rushed 102 times for 697 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
Lima Senior (3-2, 0-2 TRAC) enters Friday’s matchup on the heels of a 42-14 road setback at Oregon Clay.
A season ago, the Fighting Irish claimed a 43-12 home triumph vs. the Spartans. CCHS jumped out to a 37-0 halftime lead and was never threatened in the second half to record its 11th-straight win in the series. All but two of Central Catholic’s wins during this stretch vs. the Spartans have been by at least 30 points.
Former RB Josh Watson carried the load offensively in last year's matchup, finishing with 76 yards and a season-high 3 TDs. Watson scored on runs of 32, 7 and 1 yards. Clark was also efficient throwing the pigskin, completing 9 of 14 passes for 169 yards and 1 TD. Clark was credited with a 9-yard TD pass to former WR Josh Lee and a 10-yard rushing score.
