Football Outlasts Rival Whitmer, 27-17, at Home

The Central Catholic football team outlasted rival Whitmer, 27-17, on Friday before a capacity crowd in Gallagher Stadium.  With the hard-fought win, the Fighting Irish improve to 2-0 on the season.

Senior RB Tyler Morgan led the 2-time reigning state champions with 158 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries, helping CCHS extend its school-record winning streak to 33-consecutive games.

Junior RB Anthony Sylvester added 105 yards on 20 rushes and 1 TD, as CCHS finished with a slight 363-330 edge in total offense.

It also marked Central Catholic's 6th-straight victory vs. the Panthers (1-1) and 10th in the last 11 overall matchups in the series.

CCHS returns to the gridiron vs. Detroit Catholic Central next Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. for its Catholic High School League opener at Fr. Richard Elmer Stadium.  Last fall, the Fighting Irish tallied a 42-21 home victory vs. DCC in their CHSL debut.  1st-team All-Ohio RB Marquan Braswell led Central Catholic with 156 yards on the ground on 22 carries, including a 6-yard TD run.  Morgan also had a solid effort rushing the ball, finishing with 95 yards on 18 attempts, scoring on runs of 1, 5, and 18 yards.
