Four Central Catholic Student-Athletes Named 2022 CYO Outstanding Athletes

Four Central Catholic student-athletes have been recognized with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Outstanding High School Athlete award.

Senior Winston Delp (Football, St. Joan of Arc), senior Susie Iannone (Girls’ Soccer, St. Pius), senior Grace Merchant (Girls’ Volleyball, St. Joseph Maumee), and senior Will Rudski (Boys’ Soccer, St. John XXIII) represented the Fighting Irish with this prestigious distinction.

The CYO invited high school coaches from each fall sport to nominate a student-athlete for the CYO Outstanding High School Athlete award. Players must be senior varsity athletes who participated in the CYO sports program while in grade school, and they must have good academic and disciplinary records as well as strong leadership qualities. The nominees must also serve as positive role models for current players in the CYO program.

“We are always excited when our student-athletes are recognized by the CYO for their accomplishments in athletics, but also the fact that academics, character, and leadership play such a role in this award,” said Central Catholic Athletic Director Greg Dempsey. “We are very fortunate to have four student-athletes that not only excel in the athletic arena, but also demonstrate the core values of CYO that make them role models for the younger athletes in the CYO programs. We are very proud of these athletes and their accomplishments at Central Catholic, both on and off the field.”
