Girls’ Basketball Drops 1-Possession Matchup vs. Perrysburg on Road, 46-44

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team suffered a tough 46-44 setback at Perrysburg on Thursday in the PHS Gym.  With the 1-possession loss, CCHS falls to 3-14 on the season.

The Scarlet & Gray mounted a valiant 4th-quarter comeback, outscoring the host Yellow Jackets 18-9 over the final 8 minutes.  Unfortunately for the Fighting Irish, they could not get complete the comeback and suffered their 6th-consecutive loss.

Junior Nina Stevens paced CCHS with 12 points, while classmate Marissa Justen had 10 points.

Junior Serinity Bolden also contributed 7 points in the non-league competition and freshman Maeley Bragg had 6 points.

Central Catholic did much of its damage from beyond the arc, knocking down 10 triples.

Sophie Mitchell led the Yellow Jackets with a game-high 17 points, followed closely by Hayden Siebenaler with 16 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshmen team sustained a 44-8 setback vs. Perrysburg, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 47-10 decision.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against Genoa on Saturday, February 1, starting with the junior varsity contest at 1 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. Tickets for tomorrow’s non-conference matchup can be purchased at bit.ly/48e04CE.
