Girls’ Basketball Drops 63-49 Decision vs. St. Mary’s Preparatory School on Road

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team dropped a 63-49 decision against St. Mary’s Preparatory School on Tuesday in the Dombrowski Fieldhouse.  With the road loss, the Fighting Irish fall to 3-13 overall, 3-5 in the Catholic High School League.

CCHS was outscored 25-17 in the pivotal 2nd half vs. the Eaglets to suffer its 5th-straight setback.

Junior Nina Steven led the Scarlet & Gray with 14 points. Stevens has now paced the squad in scoring in 6 of the last 7 contests.

Sophomore Madison Stricker added 10 points vs. OLSM, followed closely by junior Marissa Justen (9 pts.), senior Paris Waites (8 pts.), and junior Serinity Bolden (8 pts.).

Stella Poota paced St. Mary’s Prep with a game-high 27 points on the strength of 7 treys.  The home team also benefited from double-digit scoring efforts from Brooke Shockey (16 pts.) and Alie Crighton (10 pts.).

The tandem of Poota and Shockey did bulk of their damage after intermission, tallying 17 of their team’s 25 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity team secured a 29-20 victory vs. OLSM on the road.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against Perryburg this evening, starting with the freshmen game at 4:45 p.m. in the PHS Gym.  Tickets for Thursday’s non-conference matchup can be purchased by clicking HERE (bit.ly/3Ge6GWP).
