Girls’ Basketball Falls Short vs. Bishop Hartley in Regional Semifinal in Double Overtime, 47-45

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 47-45 double overtime loss against Bishop Hartley on Tuesday in the Division II regional semifinal at Mansfield Senior High School. With the neutral-court loss in Pete Henry Gym, fourth-ranked CCHS finishes its record-setting season with a 24-2 overall record, including a perfect 14-0 mark in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

2021-22 TRAC Player of the Year senior Brinn Hunt paced the Fighting Irish with 22 points, including a three-point field goal with four seconds left in regulation to force the first extra period.

First-team all-league honoree sophomore Brooklyn Vaughn added eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds for the 2021-22 TRAC champions.

Kiki McElrath tallied a contest-best 26 points and four steals to lead the Lady Hawks (18-6), while Bella Parker contributed 12 points on the heels of four triples. They also benefitted from seven points, 15 caroms and a game-high eight rejections from Ella Brandewie to advance to state’s “Elite Eight.”

Tuesday’s game marked the final contest for CCHS’s three-member senior class – Brinn Hunt, Jen Pryer, Anabelle Gogol.
