Boys’ Basketball Runs Away from Port Clinton in District Semifinal, 50-29

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team registered a 50-29 victory against Port Clinton on Wednesday in the Division II District Semifinal at Lake High School. With the impressive win, CCHS improves to 19-5 on the season.

The top-seeded Fighting Irish utilized a 26-0 run over the course of the second and third quarters to give themselves a comfortable lead and end the Redskins’ season for the second-straight year. A season ago, the Scarlet & Gray posted a 50-20 home triumph vs. Port Clinton in the Sectional Final.

2021-22 District VII Player of the Year junior Chico Johnson paced CCHS with a game-high 18 points. All-District second-team honoree junior Michael Greenlee Jr. added nine points and honorable mention selection freshman Makhi Leach had seven off the bench.

The trio of Adam Thorbahn, Brayden Spencer and Josh Hurst shared the scoring lead for the sixth-seeded Redskins (15-10) with eight points apiece.

CCHS will now face Tiffin Columbian (19-5), a 53-50 winner over Sandusky earlier in the evening, in the District Final on Saturday, March 5 at 7 pm at Lake High School. A season ago, the Fighting Irish pulled off a 55-49 upset victory against the No. 2 seed Tornadoes in the District Final at Lake.
