Girls’ Basketball Ousts Rival Notre Dame Academy in Semifinals of CHSL Tournament, 58-34
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team ousted Notre Dame Academy, 58-34, in the semifinals of the Catholic High School League Central Division Tournament on Tuesday on the campus of Detroit Catholic Center. With the impressive neutral-court victory, CCHS improves to 15-6 on the season.
The Fighting Irish secured their 3rd win vs. the rival Eagles this season, defeating them 50-44 on the road (January 10) and most recently 44-36 at home (January 31).
Senior Brooklyn Vaughn was 1 of 3 CCHS players in double figures, and in doing so joined the 1,000-point club. The 2023-24 All-Catholic selection paced the Scarlet & Gray with 15 points and 14 rebounds to tally her 10th double-double this season.
Classmate Corniya Clay added 12 points to help Central Catholic extend its winning streak to a season-high 5 consecutive games, followed closely by sophomores Ava Pietras and Nina Stevens with 10 and 9 points, respectively.
Amira Dupree notched a squad-best 12 points for NDA (10-11).
The Fighting Irish will now take on Father Gabriel Richard in the CHSL Championship Game on Saturday, February 17 at 5 p.m. in Calihan Hall on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy. Back on January 20, CCHS dropped a 63-46 decision against the Fighting Irish in Ann Arbor.
