Girls’ Basketball Prevails vs. Rival Notre Dame Academy at Home, 44-36
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team secured a 44-36 victory against rival Notre Dame Academy on Wednesday in the Sullivan Center. With the hard-fought home win, CCHS improves to 11-6 overall, 6-1 in the Catholic High School League.
The dynamic duo of seniors Corniya Clay and Brooklyn Vaughn combined for 34 of the Fighting Irish’s 44 points, helping them sweep the regular-season series vs. the Arrows for the 3rd-straight year. Back on January 10, CCHS registered a 50-44 road triumph vs. NDA (8-9).
Clay paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 21 points. She knocked down a season-best 5 triples in Wednesday’s CHSL matchup, topping the 20-point mark for the 2nd time this season. Clay tallied a season-high 23 points vs. Lakota West at the Classic in the Country on January 13.
Vaughn added 13 points and a contest-best 13 rebounds to post her 8th double-double this year.
Amira Dupree led Notre Dame Academy with 12 points.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team lost 24-13 against NDA, while the junior varsity squad suffered a 29-16 home setback.
Central Catholic will return to the court against Mercy on Friday, February 2 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Gym.
