Central Catholic Hires Cory Bryan as Softball Coach

Cory Bryan has been named the head softball coach at Central Catholic High School, Director of Athletics Greg Dempsey recently announced.

“We are very excited to have Cory as our new softball coach,” Dempsey said. “He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position.  Cory is one of the most respected softball coaches in the area.  We look forward to him continuing to build on our strong tradition.”

Bryan brings over 15 years of coaching experience at numerous places across the country at the travel, high school, and collegiate levels to Cherry Street.

He is currently the owner and director of the NWO Lady Irish Fastpitch Softball program in nearby Sylvania, consisting of 11 teams.

Bryan has been the head coach for the NWO Lady Irish for multiple ages since 2014. He also served as head coach at Sylvania Northview High School (2014-19) and a volunteer coach at Owens Community College (2021-23) during this same time.

“I’m excited about this opportunity at Central Catholic,” Bryan said. “The student-athletes here are talented and hardworking with bright futures on and off the field.  I can’t wait to lead them in their high school softball journey.  I’m thrilled with the amazing coaching staff we have assembled, the support the administration has provided, and the possibility to build CCHS softball into a preeminent program.”

Bryan started his coaching career as a men’s basketball graduate assistant at his alma mater, Northeastern State University (1993-94). He went on to become the U-14 head coach for the Sylvania Fusion (2008-11) and the junior varsity head coach at Sylvania Northview (2009-11). Bryan then worked as the U-16 head coach for Thurston Phillies (2011-12) in Eugene, OR, the U-18 assistant coach for The Crush (2012-13) in El Paso, Texas, and the U-18 head coach for Adrian Lookouts (2013-14) before assuming the head coach position for the NWO Lady Irish in 2014.

A member of the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA/USA) and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), Bryan is retired from the United States Army. Upon retirement as Operations Sergeant Major for the Army Recruiting Battalion in 2014, he served as a financial advisor with Edward Jones and eventually retired from those duties to focus on coaching.

A native of Morris, OK, Bryan graduated from NSU with a bachelor’s degree in health & physical education in 1993. He also received military education training from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas (2012-13).
