Girls’ Basketball Shoots Past Divine Child in Home Finale, 53-33

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team claimed an impressive 53-33 victory against Divine Child on Friday in the Sullivan Center.  With the non-league win, CCHS improves to 6-15 on the season.

The Fighting Irish posted a decisive 8-2 advantage from 3-point land and a 13-1 edge at the charity stripe vs. the Falcons, helping them tally their largest margin of victory this season.

Junior Marissa Justen paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 15 points, followed closely by classmate Serinity Bolden with 14 points.

CCHS also benefited from strong efforts by junior Nina Stevens (8 pts.), senior Paris Waites (5 pts.), and freshman Maeley Bragg (5 pts.) in its home finale.

Elizabeth Wilhelmsen led DC with 13 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshmen team secured a 26-17 win vs. Divine Child, while the junior varsity squad suffered a 31-26 home setback.

The Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood at No. 2 seed Bowsher in the Sectional Quarterfinals of the Division III Northwood District of the OHSAA State Tournament on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m.  Tickets must be purchased by clicking HERE (ohsaa.org/tickets).  If CCHS defeats the Blue Racers on the road, they will compete vs. the winner of No. 3 seed Maumee vs. No. 4 seed Rogers on Wednesday, February 19 at 8:15 p.m. at Northwood High School.
