Girls’ Basketball Takes Down Arch-Rival Notre Dame Academy in Regular-Season Finale, 40-31

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team concluded its regular season with a hard-fought 40-31 win at Notre Dame Academy on Wednesday. With the road triumph, CCHS improves to 21-1 overall and finishes a perfect 14-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

The Fighting Irish, who rank No. 6 in this week’s final Associated Press Division II state poll, swept the regular-season series against their arch-rival Eagles for the first time since the formation of the TRAC in 2011. Back on Jan. 6, CCHS registered a 42-33 home victory, ending NDA’s 10-year reign atop the TRAC standings.

Sophomore Brooklyn Vaughn paced the 2021-22 TRAC champions with a game-high 13 points, followed closely by TRAC Player of the Year senior Brinn Hunt with 11.

Sydney Orians paced Notre Dame (11-9, 9-5 TRAC) with 10 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity (8-13, 4-8 TRAC) suffered a 39-30 setback vs. NDA in its season finale.

Central Catholic, will now shift its focus to the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Tournament. CCHS, the No. 1 seed in the Paulding District, will take on Celina on Monday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 pm in the Sectional Tourney Final at Ayersville High School.
