Girls’ Basketball Takes Down Springfield in Non-Conference Road Matchup, 69-59
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team registered a 69-59 win against Springfield on Wednesday in the Springfield HS Gym. With the non-league triumph, CCHS improves to 8-1 on the season.
The Fighting Irish got some level revenge vs. the Blue Devils, as they handed the Scarlet & Gray their only regular-season setback last season.
Junior Brooklyn Vaughn paced Central Catholic with a season-tying best 20 points. The 2021-22 1st-team All-TRAC honoree has now poured in 20 points in back-to-back games and on 3 occasions so far this season.
Junior Corniya Clay added 16 points in the hard-fought victory, while senior Mary Ellis contributed a season-high 15 points.
Kendall Carruthers led host Springfield (7-3) with a game-high 24 points, followed by Gretchen Sigman with 19.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team also defeated Springfield, 26-9, while the junior varsity squad secured an impressive 40-21 road victory.
Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against Margaretta on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The opening tip versus the Polar Bears is scheduled for 7:30 pm in the MHS Gym.
