Girls’ Basketball Throttles TRAC Foe Oregon Clay at Home, 53-16

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team continued its winning ways, registering an impressive 53-16 victory against Oregon Clay on Monday in the Sullivan Center. With the dominating home triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 17-0 overall, 11-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

CCHS, which is ranked No. 5 in the most recent Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state poll, jumped out to a 19-2 lead vs. the visiting Eagles after the opening eight minutes and never looked back.

For the game, Central Catholic allowed a season low in points and marked the third time this year it surrendered fewer than 20 points.

Senior Brinn Hunt led the victorious Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 13 points, followed closely by junior Mary Ellis and sophomore Corniya Clay with 11 points each.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity suffered a 37-32 setback vs. Clay.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against TRAC rival Notre Dame on Thursday, Feb. 3. The junior varsity game will begin at 6 pm at NDA, followed by the varsity contest at 7:30 pm. Back on Jan. 6, the Fighting Irish registered a 42-33 home victory vs. the Eagles. Tickets are available at https://ndaeagles.org/event-tickets.
