Krista Roessle Earns Toledo Rowing Foundation/Anderton L. Bentley, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Senior Krista Roessle has been awarded the Toledo Rowing Foundation/Anderton L. Bentley, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the TRF announced on Tuesday. The scholarship is managed and awarded by the Toledo Community Foundation and the TRF.
“I’m incredibly proud to represent Central Catholic in the rowing community,” Roessle said. “This honor sheds light on the wonderful program that has been built up in recent years and I’m grateful for the immense support I’ve received both at Central and at the boathouse.”
A four-time captain of the Fighting Irish Rowing team, Roessle enjoys playing leapfrog with her teammates in sculling boats, hanging out on the boat trailers in between races with her team, and rowing at night with the summer TRC squad.
The 2021 CCHS Class Valedictorian, Roessle is involved in a number of activities outside of rowing, including being the Vice President for her class council, historian for the National Honor Society (NHS) and the piano accompanist for the Glee Club. She also founded a free ACT tutoring program and currently serves as the lead of media for IrishTHON. In addition, Roessle is a retreat leader and participates in Varsity Quiz Bowl, Broomball, Boys’ Tennis, Swimming, and Ohio Youth in Government.
Roessle will attend Cornell University in the fall and study chemical engineering. She also plans to go to medical school in hopes of becoming a plastic surgeon or dermatologist.
The Bentley Scholarship Fund was created in 2009 in memory of Pete Bentley, a world class oarsman, who in his 60s and 70s competed in singles, doubles and eight-man crew events worldwide and brought home many medals including five golds in 2008. Mr. Bentley championed the sport of rowing in Toledo and volunteered his time on various boards for the community.
