League-High 14 Fighting Irish Earn All-CHSL Honors

Fourteen members of the Central Catholic football team garnered All-CHSL accolades, the Catholic High School League announced on Monday. The Scarlet & Gray’s 14 honorees are the most in the CHSL.

The Fighting Irish (10-0, 6-0 CHSL), who won the Central Division championship  in their 1st season in the league and ended the regular season with a 48-23 triumph vs. Detroit Cass Tech in the Prep Bowl at Ford Field, had 7 players collect All-Catholic honors.

That list included senior DB Jayden Barnes, senior RB Marquan Braswell, senior DL Michael Cannings II, senior DB Marvon Greenlee, senior OL Marc Nave, senior WR Jaylen Watson, and senior OL Elijah Williams. The duo of Cannings and Nave are earning 1st-team all-conference laurels for the 2nd-straight year.

Seven Fighting Irish also received All-League honors. They included junior DB Kevin Arnold III, senior OL Kendric Bankston, senior DL Ronald Collins III, senior OL Tyrell Green, sophomore DB Victor Singleton, Jr., junior DL Curtis Strode, Jr., and senior LB Davonte’ Wright-Ward.

In total, 10 CCHS players are collecting all-conference recognition in consecutive years.

Central Catholic will return to the gridiron against Bowling Green (5-5) on Friday, Oct. 27 in the 1st round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III State Playoffs. The opening kick vs. the Bobcats is slated for 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.

Tickets for Friday’s postseason contest MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Division III, Region 10, Select Game). Reminder, no tickets will be available to purchase at the gate. All playoff tickets are General Admission. Presale tickets will cost $9 for students and $12 for adults. In addition, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend Friday’s contest. In addition, season ticket holders may sit in their Red Seat, but they MUST purchase an online ticket for entry into the stadium.
