Football Defeats Detroit Cass Tech in Prep Bowl, 48-23
The Central Catholic football team registered a 48-23 victory against Detroit Cass Technical on Saturday in the 51st-annual Prep Bowl at Ford Field. With the impressive win in the “Goodfellows Game” in downtown Detroit, the Fighting Irish wrap up their regular season with a perfect 10-0 record.
The Scarlet & Gray outscored the Technicians 20-0 in the 2nd half to help the reigning Division II state champions extend their winning streak to 25-consecutive games.
Senior RB Marquan Braswell led the charge offensively with a season-tying best 4 TDs on the ground. Braswell, who finished with 141 yards on 28 carries, found the end zone on 3 occasions in the 1st half. He has now scored 4 TDs on 4 occasions this fall.
CCHS also benefited from 2 TDs by senior WR Jaylen Watson to snap the Technicians (6-3) 6-game winning streak. Watson had 4 catches for a season-high 119 yards, topping the century mark for the 2nd time in 2023.
In addition, senior QB Terry Collins completed an efficient 9 of 12 passing for 173 yards and 2 TDs, to go along with a rushing score in the neutral-field matchup.
Saturday’s game featured 2 of the most-successful programs in their respective state’s history. The Fighting Irish (1962, 2005, ’12, ’14, ’22) have won 5 state championships on the gridiron, while Cass Tech (2011, ‘12, ‘16) has secured 3 MHSAA Division I titles.
CCHS, which is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Ohio D-III state poll, will find out its 1st-round postseason opponent tomorrow when the OHSAA State Playoff pairings are announced.
