New Crucifix Dedicated at Central Catholic

On April 20, Central Catholic High School blessed and dedicated its new crucifix located in the Sullivan Center.  John Bishop, Class of 1984, donated the crucifix to Central Catholic.  He and his family wanted to honor John’s wife, Ann Bishop, who passed away two years ago after a battle with cancer.  John, their children - Andrew ’18, Brett ’20, Kevin ’21, Brian (CCHS junior), and Lauren (future Irish) - and several other family members joined Central Catholic students and staff for Mass and the dedication.

The 10-foot, hand-carved wooden crucifix is from Val Gardena, Italy and took several months to obtain.  Fr. David Kidd, Central Catholic’s Priest Leader, worked with Director of Operations Steve Dempsey and Henninger’s Inc. church supplies to order the crucifix.

“It’s appropriate that we dedicated the crucifix today, during the octave of Easter,” said Fr. Kidd.  “We don’t get to experience Christ’s resurrection until we get through his passion and death.  It’s important for people to see this crucifix here in one of the most public places on our campus.  Jesus Christ is the reason for our school.”

Fr. Jeremy Miller from Corpus Christi Parish at The University of Toledo, and UToledo Campus Minister Kim Kunkle also joined us for Mass.
