No. 5 Seed Girls’ Basketball Stuns No. 2 Seed Bowsher in D-III Sectional Finals, 57-52
The No. 5 seed Central Catholic girls’ basketball team upset No. 2 seed Bowsher, 57-52, in the Division III Sectional Finals on Thursday at Bowsher High School. With the post-season win, CCHS improves to 7-15 overall.
The Fighting Irish outscored the Blue Racers, 32-16, in the 2nd half to post the upset victory. CCHS trailed host Bowsher, 36-25, at the intermission before mounting the impressive 2nd-half comeback.
Thursday’s win also offered the Fighting Irish a little redemption, as they suffered a 45-37 road loss vs. the Blue Racers on December 12.
Junior Nina Stevens led the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 17 points, while junior Serinity Bolden chipped in 16 points and junior Marissa Justen had 10 points.
Kelaysia Harris paced host Bowsher (16-6) with 14 points and Asha Osei contributed 13 points.
Central Catholic advances to face No. 3 seed Maumee in the district semifinals on Wednesday, February 19 at 8:15 p.m. at Northwood High School. Tickets will be available at ohsaa.org/tickets.
