Senior Ashley Cutcher Competes for Boys & Girls Clubs Ohio Youth of the Year

Central Catholic senior Ashley Cutcher recently traveled to Columbus to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs Ohio Youth of the Year.  She had previously been named Toledo’s Youth of the Year, and this was the next step in the competition.

At the state competition, Ashley was required to make a speech to the panel of judges, and then she was chosen to speak at a luncheon of 200 people.  She finished second runner-up in the state and was awarded $7,000 in scholarships.

Ashley originally joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo’s East Club when it opened at East Broadway Elementary.  She enjoyed having a fun place to go with her friends after school.  As a high schooler, she followed in her brother Robert’s footsteps and was hired as a TEC Teen junior staff member at the David Werhmeister Club at Sherman Elementary.  (Robert Cutcher graduated from Central Catholic in 2018.)

As a TEC Teen, Ashley assists adult staff members with implementing Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo programs and engages with young members as a mentor, helping them set goals, helping them with homework, and playing games.  “I feel like I’ve learned a lot about working well with others at Central Catholic, and that has translated into this position,” she said.

At Central Catholic, Ashley is on the Honor Roll, plays violin in the orchestra, and is a retreat leader.  After graduating from CCHS, she plans to apply for a regular position at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo to work over the summer and during college.  She will attend the University of Toledo where she will major in exercise science.  She hopes to become a physical therapist.
