Sophia Farrugia & Sophia Fouty Named 2023 Girls’ Volleyball Team Captains

The Central Catholic girls’ volleyball team recently voted on its 2023 team captains this week, selecting senior middle blocker Sophia Farrugia and senior outside hitter Sophia Fouty. The pair were picked by 1st-year head coach Mallory Lenhart.

“Sophia and Sophia were chosen because of their leadership skills and their commitment to the program,” Lenhart said. “Both of them have been crucial players in the program since their freshman years. They have served as supportive and positive teammates for years and have transitioned into leadership roles very easily. Not only have they excelled in sports, but they are both extremely well-rounded and flourish in the classroom. I trust them both to show all of our players what it means to be Irish!”

Last fall, Farrugia garnered honorable mention All-TRAC honors. She was also tabbed to the conference’s all-academic team for the 2nd-straight year.

"I appreciate being in a position where my teammates look to me for guidance,” Farrugia said. “I hope to set a great example for all of the girls in the program."

Added Fouty, "As a captain, I hope to be someone my teammates, coaches, and underclassmen can trust and rely on."

The Fighting Irish begin their fall campaign against Anthony Wayne on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 12:15 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. The Scarlet & Gray is entering its 1st season in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).
