Swimming & Diving Opens Regular Season at Oberlin Invite
The Central Catholic swimming & diving team hit the pool for its season opener at the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday on the campus of Oberlin College.
The Fighting Irish looked to be in midseason form in their 1st swim competition, setting 22 personal records at the 1-day event.
“The atmosphere was electric as teammates cheered each other on, celebrating not just the individual successes but the team’s collective effort,” said Head Coach Jamie Enderle. “A huge shoutout to all the swimmers who achieved personal bests, as well as those who gave it their all in the water.”
Highlights included:
Senior Addison Brinkman dropping 2 seconds in the 200 Free.
Senior captain Alex Cherry setting a record in the 500 Free and breaking his own school record in the 100 Breaststroke (1:15.25).
Junior Katie Dittman shaving nearly 2 seconds off her 50 Free and close to 4 seconds in the 100 Free.
Junior Anna Preston cutting 2 seconds in the 100 Free and swimming her best backstroke time yet.
In addition, special recognition goes to junior Dominic Benard, freshman Nevaeh Brown, junior John Cherry, sophomore Jesus Martinez, junior McCahl Pettaway, sophomore Cooper Sadowski, junior Aniyrah White, and junior Aniyah Winningham for recording their best times.
“We’re excited to carry this momentum forward into our next meet and continue striving for greatness,” added Enderle.
CCHS will return to the pool vs. Clay High School on Tuesday, December 17 at 4:30 p.m. at the Eastern Community Branch YMCA.
