Track & Field Excels at AW Hendricks

The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams excelled at the AW Hendricks Invitational on Thursday at Robert Bishop Stadium on the campus of Clyde High School.

The boys’ squad captured 3 1st-place finishes and placed in the Top 3 in 10 events, while the girls’ squad also tallied 3 1st-place finishes.

Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s efforts on the track were junior Nyla King and senior Jaylen Watson, who were both named “Outstanding Meet Performer” at the 1-day event. King crossed the finish line 1st in the 100- (12.47), 200- (25.35), and 400-meter (57.20) runs, while Watson was the top finisher in the 200- (22.47).  In addition, Watson was part of the victorious 4x100- (42.75) and 4x400-meter relays.

In addition to Watson, the trio of sophomores Jerome Davis, Ian Smith, and Jayse Daniels were members of the 4×100-meter relay, while sophomore Victor Singleton, Jr., junior Jerry Barnes, and junior Anthony Lawrence, Jr. competed in the 4×400-meter relay.

The Fighting Irish will return to the track tomorrow for the Bill Krause Invitational at 9:30 a.m. on the campus of Heidelberg University.
