Boys’ Basketball Succumbs to Voyageur College Preparatory on Road, 69-66

The Central Catholic boys' basketball team dropped a 69-66 decision against Voyageur College Preparatory on Thursday in the Al Anderson, Jr. Gymnasium.  With the non-league loss, CCHS falls to 10-10 on the season.

The Fighting Irish were outscored 21-12 in the 4th quarter to suffer their 3rd-straight setback.  VCP’s Noah Holt sparked the come-from-behind victory, pouring in 10 of his team-high 22 points in the final 8 minutes.

Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with a contest-best 26 points.  A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell topped the 20-point plateau for the 10th time this season.

Sophomore Cayden Kynard and junior Kaeden Carruthers also tallied double-figure points for CCHS, finishing with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Fighting Irish played last night’s game without a pair of All-CHSL selections, junior Manny Johnson and classmate Draden Wardrop, who are dealing with injuries.

Besides Holt’s 22 points, Voyageur College Preparatory benefited from 16 points by Kyle Hurter and 14 points from Ken Weston to take down Central Catholic on its home court.

The Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood against Michigan Collegiate this evening for their regular-season finale at 6 p.m. on the road.
