Boys’ Basketball Throttles Michigan Collegiate in Regular-Season Finale, 83-34

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team hammered Michigan Collegiate, 83-34, on Friday in its regular-season finale.  With the impressive road victory, CCHS improves to 11-10 on the season.

Defensively, CCHS limited the Cougars to 7 points or less in every quarter to snap a 3-game losing skid.

Offensively, the Fighting Irish put a season-best 5 players in double figures, helping them top the 75-point plateau for the 5th time this winter.

Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced Central Catholic with 27 points.  A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell surpassed the 20-point mark for the 11th time this season.

Sophomore Jordan Langford added 13 points in the lopsided win, followed closely by junior Cailan Hornbeak, sophomore Cayden Kynard, and senior Dominic Spinazze II with 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.  As a team, 9 Fighting Irish registered a basket in the 49-point road triumph.

Darnell Murphy led host Michigan Collegiate with 14 points.

Central Catholic has been selected as the No. 1 seed in the Division III Lake District for the OHSAA State Tournament.  CCHS will begin district play against No. 4 seed Fremont Ross on Tuesday, February 25 at 6 p.m. at Lake High School.  If the Fighting Irish defeat the Little Giants, they will play the winner of No. 2 seed Southview vs. No. 3 seed Rogers in the District Finals on Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m. at Lake.
