Beckham Vargas Picked Student of the Month for January
Sophomore Beckham Vargas is a Summa Cum Laude member of the Honor Roll, which means he has achieved a grade-point average of 3.90 or higher. He plays safety for the Fighting Irish football team.
Beckham chose to attend Central Catholic after his brothers - Bishop ’21, Braiden ’23, and Boston - attended. “When I shadowed, I saw that it’s more than just a school, it’s a family,” he said. “The best thing about CCHS is the connections and friendships I have made.”
Beckham’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Clare Smith, who teaches American Literature and Composition. “Mrs Smith is a great teacher and knows how to make class fun,” he said. He also feels that one of his football coaches, Mike Padgett, has been very influential. “Coach Padge has taught me a lot this past year, giving me guidance to help me grow in everything I do in life,” he said.
After graduating from Central Catholic, Beckham would like to get into the medical field. “I am interested in dermatology because I have skin problems myself and I want to help people that have the same problems that I have,” he explained.
“Beckham's motivation and his consistent willingness to actively participate in my classes make him a role model and a leader within the classroom,” said Claribel Timmins, CCHS Spanish teacher.
