After the Bell with CCHS Staffulty Member & Alumnus Tyler Kleeberger, ‘08
Have you ever wondered what teachers and school staff do when they are not at school? We decided to find out!
This is the 5th in a series of stories about some of Central Catholic’s staffulty members and what they like to do after the bell rings at the end of the day. Some have surprising hobbies, others have creative talents. With this series, we hope to shine a spotlight on the special people who work with our students every day!
Connecting Past & Future
Tyler Kleeberger (Class of 2008) returned to Central Catholic in the fall of 2022 to work as an academic assistant, substitute teacher, and quarterbacks coach for the football team. He then taught math and robotics. He has continued to coach football, but he now teaches web design part time while working for a software company as an engineer. His job involves working remotely with different clients, creating databases, working with servers, and creating the way an app looks and functions.
“While I enjoyed being an academic assistant and working one-on-one with students, it has been a great experience to teach a unique elective class at Central Catholic while also being able to teach students something I am actively doing in the workplace,” Tyler said. “Students get to learn how to build websites and software applications, as well as a lot of basic computer skills. While not everyone who takes the course will want to go on to be a software engineer, they are learning a central aspect of the direction our world is going. Being able to understand coding is becoming more and more relevant. Also, for students who want to go to a four-year degree program or get started in the field, they will be prepared to do so!”
Along with teaching, coaching, and working as a software engineer, Tyler has served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church as well as an author and speaker. He hosted podcasts on the Bible and theology, and about philosophical ethics. He continues to be involved in leading workshops, lecturing at conferences, teaching, preaching, and even leading music for The Farmhouse Church.
Tyler lives with his wife and 4 sons in a rural community, and he enjoys hobbyist farming and homesteading. “We have raised sheep, ducks, and chickens, we have a small orchard, and we also grow quite a few different perennial berries and other plants,” he said. “We've experimented with honey and brewing, and we try to live as connected as possible to our land.”
Many of Tyler’s hobbies have taken a back seat to raising his family, but he is grateful that Central Catholic remains a steady presence in his life. “When I was in high school, this place brought me so much vitality and fulfillment,” he recalled. “I'm so grateful that it continues to offer that as an adult. Having a place to interact directly with students and, hopefully, impact their lives has been so meaningful in this new adventure. And with my oldest child looking to attend here in just a couple of years, it looks like Central Catholic will continue to be one of the key themes of my story for many more years to come, no matter how many changes continue to come my way!”
