5 Fighting Irish Garner All-District 7 Division II Honors

Five members of the Central Catholic boys’ basketball team have been named to the All-District 7 Division II team. The squads were selected by the head coaches within the district.

Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s honorees was freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell, who collected 1st-team accolades.  A 6-foot-3 wing, Mack-Russell has scored at least 20 points on 5 occasions in 2023-24, including a season-high 29 points vs. St. Francis de Sales on January 12.

In addition, sophomore Manny Johnson garnered 2nd-team laurels, while senior Isaiah Brenneman, sophomore Draden Wardrop, and sophomore Kaeden Carruthers received honorable mention accolades.  Brenneman is earning all-district recognition for the 2nd-straight year.

Ranked as the No. 5 seed in Northwest 1 District - Millbury, Central Catholic (10-14) returns to the hardwood against No. 1 seed Wauseon on Thursday, March 7 in the district semifinals at 7:30 p.m. at Lake High School.

Tickets for Thursday’s neutral-court matchup MUST be purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Basketball, Basketball – Boys, Division II, March 7, Find Game, Get Tickets).  General admission tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for adults.  Please note, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend the game.

If the Fighting Irish defeat the Indians on Thursday, they will play the winner of Rogers vs. Scott in the district finals on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. at Lake.

Central Catholic has advanced in postseason play with victories against Woodward, 65-13, and most recently Bowling Green, 77-49, in sectional play.
