Boys’ Basketball Cruises to 73-54 Win vs. University Prep Art & Design-Detroit in Regular-Season Finale
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team cruised to a 73-54 victory against University Prep Art & Design-Detroit on Friday in the Sullivan Center. With the non-conference win in its regular-season finale, CCHS improves to 8-14 on the season.
The Fighting Irish outscored the visiting Mustangs 23-8 in the 1st quarter to help them win back-to-back games for the 1st time since early January
Freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell paced a balanced CCHS attack with 17 points, followed closely by the trio of sophomore Manny Johnson, sophomore Draden Wardrop, and freshman Cayden Kynard with 15, 14, and 14 points, respectively.
The Scarlet & Gray also benefited from 8 points and a squad-best 10 caroms from senior Darnell Emery, Jr. to post a decisive 19-point home triumph.
Rael Cochran led UPAD with a game-high 20 points, while D'Amani Gray-Paris contributed 14 points.
The Fighting Irish has been selected as the No. 5 seed in the Division II Northwest 1 District - Millbury for the OHSAA State Tournament. Central Catholic will begin sectional play against No. 11 seed Woodward on Tuesday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. If CCHS defeats the Polar Bears, they will compete vs. No. 3 seed Bowling Green on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
