Girls’ Basketball Takes Down No. 3 Seed Shelby in D-II Sectional Final, 62-52

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team registered a 62-52 win against No. 3 seed Shelby in the Division II sectional final on Saturday at Shelby High School.  With the postseason triumph, CCHS improves to 17-7 on the season.

Senior Corniya Clay paced the No. 6 seed Fighting Irish with 20 points and a squad-best 7 assists.

Classmate Sophia Farrugia added 15 points and a team-high 5 steals, while fellow senior Brooklyn Vaughn contributed 10 points and a team-high 12 boards to post her squad-best 12th double-double.

Eve Schwemley led the Whippets (18-6) with a game-high 26 points and Serena Ramsey added 10.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against No. 5 seed Port Clinton in the district semifinals of Northwest 2 District – Old Fort of the OHSAA State Tournament on Thursday, February 29 at 6 p.m. at Old Fort High School. Tickets are currently available at www.ohsaa.org/tickets.  If the Fighting Irish defeat the Redskins, they would take on the winner of Bellevue vs. Lexington on Saturday, March 2 in the district finals at 6 p.m. at OFHS.
