Wrestling Thrives at Division II Sectional Championship

The Central Catholic wrestling team competed in the Division II Sectional Championship on Saturday at Sandusky High School. Six CCHS grapplers placed in the Top 4, securing a spot in the upcoming District Championship.

Overall, the Scarlet & Gray finished in 8th place among 13 teams at the 1-day event.

Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s efforts was a 2nd-straight, 1st-place finish by senior Mike Cannings II at 285 pounds.

In addition, freshman Alex Guerra placed runner-up at 106 pounds, junior Emilio Herrera finished 3rd at 113 pounds, while freshman Joel Osbourne, senior Lydell Osbourne, and junior Anthony Clark, Jr. tallied 4th at 132, 138, and 215 pounds, respectively. 

The duo of Cannings and Herrera are advancing to the district meet for the 2nd-consecutive year.

Central Catholic will return to the mat for the District Championship on Friday-Saturday, March 1-2 at Norwalk High School at 9 a.m.
